Position Description
The primary duties of the Solid Waste Business Class Leader-Canada include developing, implementing and maintaining a profitable solid waste program. Including business development strategies, new business prospects, technical services, quality, production methods and standards, all within the established goals and objectives of the FERM business group, market sector, region and company. Additional responsibilities include: Will develop new solid waste clients and enhance HDR's position with existing clients and add to our long term strategy in the solid waste business (planning and facilities). Works with local staff and the HDR Waste & Industrial Client Development leadership on strategy and growth. Assists regional solid waste leadership in growing the solid waste program. Identify and assist in hiring solid waste staff. Provide technical leadership/project management making sure projects have appropriate staff and quality program is implemented as designed. Implement continuous improvement activities including technical standards, best practices and lessons learned in the area. Leads the regions solid waste group strategic plan implementation. Monitor implementation of company policies and procedures, standards, quality assurance and risk management within business group, market sector and area. Monitor solid waste group, market sector and regional performance indicators and implement actions and process improvements as needed. Participate in business and community activities as a representative of HDR. Prepares annual revenue forecasts & budgets, & monitors performance of solid waste group services in the region. Support development of strong client relationships and selectively serve as a key client manager.
Bachelors degree in a professional, engineering or related field. Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience. Experienced in leading diverse teams. 10 plus years or experience in the solid waste and/or landfill business sector Works cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers. Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values. Candidate should have excellent marketing and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships in the solid waste business. Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering/planning consulting firm is desired.
